“I have never had such a business on my own before, and so I will start with SisterWorks to learn the correct way to do this.”
Hi my name is Nosey (pronounced Nu-see), and I am from Sudan. I have been living in Australia since 2009. Prior to that I also lived in Egypt for three years. I have been kept busy with my three children, who are all under five. I also have another on the way.
We moved to Australia because we had a terrible life in Darfur. Australia is safer and much nicer for my children’s future.
My friend told me to join a women’s group when I came here, and it is there I men Susan and Lisa. They help me with my language, such as when I need to speak to my children’s teachers at school. I sought advice on how to work from home, and they helped me organise business cards for child care. I have a certificate three in child care, and I also have a certificate two in hospitality, but it is hard to find a job. So for three years I had a child care business from home.
I worked up until last year, but because of the arthritis in my hands I had to stop. I was told that a website called SisterWorks might be able to help me to improve my handiwork, and start a business.
Growing up my mother, aunty and grandmother taught me how to make natural products for you skin and hair. I make skin, body, cloths and hair oil, as well as perfumes. I source all of the ingredients from Sudanese shops around Melbourne. I used to just make these for my friends and their sisters. They would bring me the ingredients and I would make them for free. But I want to make my own business.
I have never had such a business on my own before, and so I will start with SisterWorks to learn the correct way to do this.
