Over the past few weeks, I have been fortunate to get out of the (home) office and meet some of the SisterWorks team and Sisters. Firstly I attended the graduation ceremony of our very first group of Sisters who were part of our brand new pre-employment program. This eight-week course focuses on the aged care sector. It is designed to support women to be work-ready and well informed so they can better understand the Australian employment context.
As I chatted to the 15 women who graduated, I was inspired by their determination to use the knowledge they gained in this course to go onto further training or to start applying for jobs. As one woman told me, ‘When this course started we were still doing everything online and it has been a very hard year. Now I have a graduation certificate, and so much knowledge on how to work in Australian businesses. I have learned a lot about working in Australia and in aged care, and I now have many new friends to support me thanks to SisterWorks.’
And all of a sudden, it’s the festive season and – don’t tell my family – everyone is getting presents from the SisterWorks shop this year. From bread bags and beeswax wraps to bath salts, candles and earrings, I’m definitely sharing the SisterWorks unique, ethical and handmade products far and wide!
So while 2020 has been a tough year for so many of us, my first two months at SisterWorks has shown me just how much this dedicated and inspiring group of women have been able to achieve by embracing the SisterWorks motto of ‘work empowers women’.
On behalf of everyone at SisterWorks, please have a safe and happy holiday season and I can’t wait to share more exciting SisterWorks news with you in 2021.
