Sufiati Kartika, Indonesia
Sufi is the Finance Officer of SisterWorks. She is originally from Indonesia, and came to Melbourne after her marriage. She graduated with an Accounting & Finance bachelor’s degree in Indonesia, and has gained expansive knowledge through 10 years of experience working in the field.
Sufi found, through a group of migrants like her, the opportunity to volunteer for SisterWorks, which was a valuable learning experience, and she has now become a team member. She uses her accounting and financial know-how in her work and has successfully adapted her knowledge and skills to the Australian system.
She realised that local work experience is vital for migrants to gain employment opportunities, and without organisations like SisterWorks, other migrants might not get the same opportunity as she did.
Sufi feels that she has an obligation to give back to others, as it is important for migrants to help each other, especially migrant women. Now she is not only a working woman and a wife, but also a mother to her first daughter. She hopes her contribution can make a positive impact in line with the SisterWorks model “ Work Empowers Women”
