International Women’s Day Appeal 2021

Donate to our International Womens Day appeal and Empower our Sisters in a digital world.

2020 was a challenging year for so many of us. Our lives moved online – we worked from home, shopped online and saw our friends and families through a computer screen. At SisterWorks, we faced the additional challenge of making sure our Sisters were able to continue to access our classes and workshops, as well as the social and support networks the SisterWorks community offers – even if they weren’t able to physically visit our Empowerment Hubs. Dinthi, one of our Sisters says:

“During this COVID pandemic period, I was actually mentally down because we were all trapped inside the house. Especially [as] my daughter and my husband were working from home, it was very, very difficult to manage everything.”

We quickly moved our classes online and sped up the development of our online learning platform, the SisterWorks e-Hub. With support from UN Women, this exciting new platform was created for women from migrant and refugee backgrounds, providing them with bite-size educational content and access to live online classes.

“What I wanted to say is that because of SisterWorks we are not bored now, we learn so many things… We share our experiences, and during classes we have chit-chats… It’s a very bright side [of] what SisterWorks is doing during this pandemic. If these classes [are] not there, I don’t know what mental position I would have right now.. because of these classes we are keeping alive. SisterWorks is keeping us alive.”

“SisterWorks came up with a lot [of] workshops, online workshops, online classes. My husband said at once [to] participate in everything, if you want to learn crochet learn that. If you want to learn hand-stitching, learn that. Take your time, I will take care of Ria.”

In a society that is increasingly dependent on technology, digital literacy is an essential skill. In the lead-up to International Women’s Day on March 8th, we are officially launching the e-Hub and asking for your support to help us grow so even more migrant, refugee and asylum seeker women can continue to build their digital literacy, gain new knowledge and skills, and learn more about living in Australia.

Please donate to our International Women’s Day appeal to keep our Sisters connected in this new age. We know times are tough for many right now. If donating isn’t possible, follow our campaign through our social media Facebook and Instagram and help spread the word!

Together we can help our Sisters become economically and socially empowered in a digital world.

PS. We would also love to invite you to the online launch of the e-Hub! See the e-Hub in action and hear from some great speakers. It’s free to attend and you can RSVP here.
