Human Resources and Volunteer Coordinator
Sonya Shah (She/Her), India
Sonya became part of SisterWorks in August 2024, starting as an intern with a passion for people and community. After her internship, she remained committed as a volunteer for a year before stepping into the role of Human Resources and Volunteer Coordinator in August 2025. In this position, she leads the recruitment, onboarding, and ongoing support of the diverse team of staff and volunteers, helping to foster an environment where everyone feels welcomed and empowered.
Born in India to interracial Chinese and Indian parents, Sonya draws deeply from her own family’s journey and refugee background. This personal and family history gives her insight into the dreams, strengths, and challenges faced by migrant and refugee women, and a perspective that fuels her dedication to the SisterWorks mission. Currently, she is completing her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology at Monash University, and she is passionate about using her studies and lived experience to create pathways for others to flourish.
“As a migrant woman from a family with deep refugee roots, I know how powerful it is to feel seen, supported, and heard. At SisterWorks, I strive to help create those opportunities for women so they can grow in confidence, independence, and purpose.”
