Shamila Gopalan

Shamila Gopalan is an entrepreneur and a corporate leader having built businesses
independently and in Fortune 500 firms globally for over 25 years across 3 continents.
Born in Malaysia, from Indian descent, Shamila has lived across several countries from the
US, Singapore, HK and now Australia. She graduated with a Master’s in Business from New
York and has worked in the media industry globally for close to 20 years. Over the past
decade, she has built two businesses, exited one and now on her current venture, HerWit.
Being passionate about pushing the envelope for equality, diversity and inclusion, she
launched HerWit, a profit-for-purpose venture, empowering ambitious female
entrepreneurs take their businesses from launch, to growth – taking them from start-up to
scale up right through to pre-seed funding. While becoming strong leaders in their
businesses and within their industry to implement not just diverse but inclusive leadership.
She is also the co-host of a podcast, Unapologetically Brown focused on issues around culture,
identity race and representation, dedicated to uplifting the expertise and perspectives of
women of colour.
