Showcasing our incredible Sisters and community, SisterWorks Spectacular Cultural Festival turned out to be a truly spectacular day and a fitting celebration of 10 years of SisterWorks.

More than 2,800 people joined us on Saturday, 9 September 2023, at Abbotsford Convent to shop from an impressive array of stalls showcasing entrepreneurial Sisters businesses, enjoy delicious cultural cuisines, take part in family activities and marvel at impressive performances throughout the day.

The success of the Spectacular and her own stall overwhelmingly exceeded her expectations, having predicted she would only make a few sales she ended up making over 30 sales which has inspired her to keep growing her business.

“I got the courage that yes I can do this and I can make more customers and have a good business. [The event] motivates me.”

Spectacular Performances

Out in the courtyard there were back to back incredible performances showcasing a wide range of cultures, including Javanese Gamelan Music, Chinese Lion Dancing and Indonesian Wedding Fashion and ‘ExtraVaGanda’ Costumes and many more.

She also reflected on the impact that SisterWorks has had on her life.

Florence shared, “I thank SisterWorks from the bottom of my heart. I am who I am today because of SisterWorks.”

Highlighting our Volunteers and Team

Volunteers have always played a crucial role at SisterWorks and the Spectacular was no different, with over 60 volunteers and team members ensuring that the day went smoothly.

“I thoroughly enjoyed my time volunteering at the Spectacular. It was a rewarding experience and great to see the broader community learn about and engage with SisterWorks”, said Bayden, one of our volunteers on the day.

We want to express a huge thank-you to all of the people that helped make the day happen including the Victorian State Government and Victorian Multicultural Commission for supporting the event.  Also thank-you to L’Oreal Groupe for their generous donation of the goody bags that were a hit with the crowd.
